Alani Hicks-Bartlett is a graduate student (ABD) at the University of California, Berkeley. She is pursuing a Joint PhD in Medieval Studies and Romance Languages and Literatures, with a designated emphasis in Women, Sexuality and Gender Studies. Her primary interests include: Petrarch and Petrarchism; the wife-murder plays of Early Modern Spanish theater; and trauma and memory in Renaissance epic and lyric poetry. She is committed to Disability Studies and Digital Humanities. Her dissertation is a comparative study of the mechanism of the vow and its relation to marriage and violence in Ariosto and Tasso, Calderón and Cervantes, and the Romance of the Rose and Montaigne.
